The Apple iPad: Push or Pull?

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

When we evaluate new technology I believe that the key equation is “push or pull.” It is the rare new technology product released to the public where the reaction is an immediate: “I want that.” I suppose Facebook and Twitter are recent examples of “I want that” being a very common refrain. It certainly didn’t [...]

Adobe Drives Another Stake Through the Heart of Print

Sunday, January 17, 2010
Category: Printing, Software

No press release was issued by Adobe, but a few press outlets caught the story. I found it the other day in PrintAction’s weekly enewsletter. Clive Chan, PrintAction’s associate editor, tells me that he picked up the story from Macworld UK.
Further searching brings me to a blog entry from January 4, 2010 by the excellent journalist Cary Sherburne [...]

The latest issue of The Seybold Report features an interview with me by Heidi Tolliver-Nigro about my Adobe-Omniture acquisition report, Adobe’s Designs on Web Analytics: The Omniture Acquisition. Getting Ready for Adobe’s Big Update on Omniture

Monday, December 14, 2009

I’m getting excited because tomorrow Adobe is webcasting its 4th quarter and year-end results (it’s all public and you can register here), and, as expected, because the Omniture acquisition closed in the fourth quarter, we should get some initial insights into how the acquisition is progressing. There’s no question that these are VERY early days, [...]

When the Boss Sets Your Desk on Fire, You’re Fired

Thursday, November 19, 2009

The Schumpeter column in the current issue of The Economist examines the question of whether CEOs serve their firms better when they are high-profile egoists like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, or low-profile “anonymous managers,” such as Sam Palmisano at IBM. It mentions Haruku Nishimatsu, the boss of Japan Airlines, “who travels to work on [...]

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas: Adobe Lays off 680+

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

As reported in the Wall Street Journal Adobe Systems has just repeated what one prays does not continue as an annual event, the pre-holiday season layoffs. Last year it was 600, or 8% of the workforce; this year 680, or 9% of the workforce. This layoff is in addition to the some 100 laid off [...]

Steve Jobs: CEO of the Decade

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Fortune Magazine has christened Apple Computer’s CEO, Steve Jobs, as “CEO of the Decade.” You certainly will find no disagreement from this corner.

You’ll find some great coverage of the man, his career and his products at the link above (reinserted here for the mouse-weary).

Adobe-Omniture, Part 3

Thursday, October 1, 2009

What a great week this has been! I set for myself a tough task last Friday — produce a detailed, fair, informed and detailed report on Adobe’s proposed (and, I think, extremely likely to succeed) proposal to buy the web analytics firm Omniture — and publish my report by next Monday.
I’ve received cooperation from all [...]

Adobe-Omniture, Part 2

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

After my first glib reaction to the Adobe-Omniture deal, this past Friday it struck me that the proposed acquisition by Adobe deserves a lot more scrutiny.
So I’ve set myself the task to prepare a detailed in-depth report on the topic and publish it by next Monday.
I’ve collected all of the interesting articles and web posts [...]

Adobe Co-Founders to Receive National Medal of Technology and Innovation

Saturday, September 26, 2009
Category: Software, Standards

I missed this story a week ago in the San Jose Mercury-News. According to its web site: “President Barack Obama…picked Adobe Systems co-founders Charles Geschke and John Warnock to receive…the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.”

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, “The National Medal of Technology and Innovation… is the highest honor for [...]
